SPOOKYpodcasts

i was never a podcast girlie until i started working at [INSERT BIG BOX STORE HERE]. at first i was listening to sea shanties while i was trying to meet their unreasonable quotas. and then i discovered podcasts. there's nothing like a some dudes (gender neutral) talking shit for hours on end to make the day pass quicker.

i started with a few comedy podcasts (rest in piss cody ko), but quickly moved onto true crime because forensic science has always fascinated me. blame CSI and NCIS for that, ig. but, after a while, i realized that most true crime podcasts weren't the best. it all started to feel exploitative, y'know?

however! while listening to those podcasts, i discovered several of them that had call ins and email days where they would read true crime and supernatural stories from their listeners. i also discovered that i preferred these episodes to whatever murders were being covered.

enter my discovery of the paranormal podcast. i love them. so much. they're not exploiting anyone and i still get to be creeped out at work. this page will be covering the podcats that i've already listened to. however, my to listen list is EXTENSIVE.

THEpodcasts

A Scottish Podcast hasn't been updated in a while, but it's definitely worth a listen. it's a fully voiced and produced radio play about a washed up radio dj who tries to become the latest and best in the paranormal podcast drama.

The Antiquarium of Sinister Happenings is a serial fiction podcast about a store full of cursed objects. no returns, no exceptions. a lot of horror fiction podcasts suffer from "terminal edgy disease" where there's just so much gross out content that it isn't enjoyable. so far, there's only been one series within this series that was gross out content and it was accurately labled so i could skip it. there's a good mix of creepy pasta and original work here and i'm going to keep listening as long as they keep releasing!

okay. so. i'm super fussy about rpg podcasts. i've listened to a sum total of like five and i've only kept listening to three. The Apocalypse Players is one of them. i love this one so much. it's the right mix of "this is how the game works" and "fuck it, we ball" and it's just so SO perfect. listening to three british guys trying to do a variety of american accents, especially new england accents (which are local to me) is hilarious.

The Arkham Files is another one of those three rpg podcasts that i've kept listening to. imagine, if you will, a call of cthulhu campaign played by five brothers and their one friend. shenanigans. so many shenanigans. someone's nickname is "netty hands" someone has suspenders that help with his seduction attemps someone's wife's name is mary beth beth beth. it's a wild fucking time and i've loved every second of it. and remember, no psychiatrists were harmed in the recording of this podcast.

Belief Hole is another podcast that consists of brothers. a set of twins and their older brother, to be precise. the vibes are immaculate. they talk about the paranormal and cryptozoology and i can't tell the three of them apart and i've listened to their entire back catalogue. they're super easy to listen to and they cover a variety of topics. this one is another good entry point if you've never dipped your toe into the paranormal waters before.

Believing The Bizzare is another great entry poit to the supernatural genre. Tyler and Charlie have been friends since college and they play off of each other really well. the podcast is equal parts supernatral, listener stories, and horror movie content. they also occasionally interview folks from other podcasts and do crossovers. the let's get haunted crossover is particularly good!

so. who up creepin they cast? creepcast is a creepy story podcast hoasted by your favorite sunday school teacher, wendigoon, and your favorite degenerate gross out artist, papa meat. expect creepy pastas, r/nosleep entires, and other bits and bobs of creepy internet lore. also expect the worst jokes you've ever heard, flopping that thang around in space, and occasionally wendigoon pulls his 9mm and cross. with good reason. 10/10 would reccomend.

The Cryptonaut Podcast is my favorite podcast hands down. i usually have a lot of trouble picking my favorite anything, but not this time. not this podcast. the cryptonaut podcast covers cryptids and aliens you've never heard of. ever. anywhere. there was a carrot man one time. it was wild. it's hosted by your drunk uncles from upstate new york (affectionate) as they sit on your grandma's back porch and discuss the finer points of cryptozology, ufology, and how your uncle marc thinks the moon isn't real. this was one of the first supernatural podcasts that i listened to and i've never regretted it once.

Monsters Among Us is a show comprised completely of people calling in and telling their true first person encounters. the things people have seen consistently blow me away. derek hayes, the host, has a great voice for creepiness. they also recently launched a show completely made up of kid's first person stories. it's so cute listening to kids call in a talk about the lights they saw in the skies or that shadows in the woods.

Sasquatch Tracks is a science based podcast all about relict hominoids aka bigfoot. it's hosted by michah hanks, who also has other podcasts about the news, new tech, and ufology. he and a few of his friends interview people in the bigfoot community on a monthly basis and talk about advances in science related to it. it's honestly pretty interesting to see a podcast so dedicated to the scientific method in the cryptozology community. michah even encourages his listeners to become "citizen scientists" and document the world around them. if you're big into bigfoot, i'd suggest this one for sure.

The SCP Experience is an SCP Foundation based podcast with both original stories and ones from the archive. i wish there were more detailed trigger warnings on the episodes and more credits than just in the show notes. however, the quality of the episodes and stores make up for this. there aren't too many gross out episodes and the original story lines are some of my faves. this was my intro to the scp foundation and i think it's a pretty good sampling of what's out there without diving into the wiki too far.

This Paranormal Life is a great place to start if you're not sure if you like the genre yet. kit and rory are irish and comedians and maybe also running a cult commune.every week they pick a different supernatural event or story and decide whether they find it believable or not. there are a lot of double nos, but there are also a fuck ton of bad jokes.

Viva La Dirt League D&D okay so this one isn't technically a podcast or supernatural but what is a podcast really? a long form audio show? well, you can listen to the audio of this one and still understand everything that's happening. and what is supernatural? something where supernatural events happen? well, bob explodes out of someone multiple times and that's pretty spooky. so it's a spooky podcast to me. the lads at vldl are some of my faves on yt and this is the third rpg podcast that i listen to. rob is a brilliant gm, he took a group of encouragable goofballs who don't know how to listen (or roll higher than a one) and whipped them into a team of adventurers in no time at all! there are other rpg series on the channel, but i'm still trying to get through "adventures in azerim", so i can't personally reccomend any of them. but if they're anything like the main quest line, they're amazing.
