I have a complicated relationship with hobbies. On one hand, I think creativity and having hobbies makes life worth living. On the other hand, I have SADs and PMDD and making any kind of art is a struggle on most days. On the third hand (where did that come from?), the things that you find important and enjoyable are important and you should try to find time for them. The things you love are worth the effort. You are worth the effort.
Add the fact that creating things makes my brain happy, and 2026 is shaping up to be the year that I start doing things again.
In addition to being the year of "doing things," 2026 is the year of Analogue Hobbies. I'm crocheting this year, I'm reading physical books, I'm writing things by hand. I bought a bigger purse so I can bring things with me when I go out. If you think that making things makes your brain happy, you should try making things with your hands. It's on a whole new level!
Coding, crocheting, and writing are my three favorite hobbies outside of reading, so these will be the base of my hobby tower. If I decide to add more eyes pile of art supplies in the corner, they'll show up here, too!
