Well, if you can't tell that I love coding by the simple fact that this page even exists then I don't know what to tell you lmao. I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I've been coding since the Neopets days. I loved tinkering around with premade lookups and seeing how they worked and making them truly mine. I made little mini-blogs, guild layouts, and my own petpages all the time.

Around the same time I started making my own little free websites. I had an Angelfire and a Freewebs - both long gone - and I loved making them as goth and scene as I wished I was in real life. I even made a website with a friend over the course of a weekend.

Then I joined Tumblr and was so caught up in that 2009 hipster/fandom aesthetic that I left websites behind. Until 2024. In February of 2024 I found a post on tumblr while looking for page decorations that talked about Neocities and the "indie web." I did zero research and just signed up immediately.

Then came the flood of memories. I was remembering half bits of code and googling EVERYTHING and trying to stitch pages together with snippets and bubble gum.

This is the fourth or fifth iteration of Faintly Macabre and it certainly won't be the last. I love the flow of the indie web. I love that I could code this page in a certain way on Monday and discover a new way to code it on Tuesday and update it's looks on Wednesday. And I could do that every week for the rest of Neocities' life. I'm just a girl who loves reinventing herself every two weeks and the indie web provided me with a space where I could do that. New beginnings are so refreshing, don't you think?
